The experience
Gorgeous little South Sea Island is one of the treasures of the Mamanuca Islands. Crystal clear water, coral reefs and thousands of tropical fish surround the tiny island. Peppered with palm trees and ringed by a coral lagoon, uninhabited South Sea Island is truly one of Fiji's gems.
A day trip to South Sea Island is an easy 30-minute ferry ride from Port Denarau Marina with South Sea Cruises. Being so close to Denarau means you can make the most of the day lazing on the beach, snorkelling, diving and enjoying the activities on offer.
The full day cruise means you get to see and do everything the island offers. There is a saltwater swimming pool and free non-motorised watersports including kayaking and sailing. Hammocks sway under the palms, and there is plenty of shade for relaxing between swims.
Discover the underwater world with hours of snorkelling, or stay dry aboard the semi-submersible coral viewer. Introductory diving is a highlight here: start in the pool, then explore the coral gardens, drop-offs and a purposefully sunk shipwreck on a Discover Scuba dive. Although the island is uninhabited, you still get a taste of Fijian culture with a traditional Meke performance and craft market from Monday to Saturday.
The half day cruise is perfect for travellers short on time who still want a taste of the real Fiji, with enough hours ashore for most of the island's activities.
